2012 · Rebound Rumble

Swish

An octacanum-drive robot with a pneumatic battering ram and belt intake system.

The Game

Rebound Rumble challenged robots to shoot small foam basketballs into a high, mid, or low goal. Robots could cross the field by driving over a barrier or crossing a bridge. The endgame involved balancing on the bridge — either by itself or with one or two other robots — for game-changing points.

The Robot

Swish was unique in that it featured an octacanum drive design. Swish also had a pneumatic-controlled “axe” that acted as a battering ram to force the bridge to come down. The robot utilized a belt intake system for collecting and feeding the foam basketballs.

The team received the Entrepreneurship Award at the Boilermaker Regional and the Engineering Inspiration Award at the Queen City Regional. At the FIRST World Championship, the team went 7-2 in qualification rounds and was selected for the #6 alliance on the Curie Field, making it to the Division Semifinals before being knocked out by the Championship Runner-Up alliance. Mark Snodgrass became the team’s new teacher sponsor and head coach this year.
